About EuroSun 2026
Initiated by ISES, the International Solar Energy Society in 1996, EuroSun has been held on a bi-annual basis in cities all across Europe. Recent EuroSun conferences have taken place in Limassol, Cyprus (2024), Kassel, Germany (2022), Rapperswil, Switzerland (2018), Palma de Mallorca, Spain (2016) and Aix-les-Bains, France (2014).
EuroSun 2026 is jointly organized by ISES - the International Solar Energy Society and the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, IEA SHC.
For 2026, the organizers are especially pleased to announce the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE as the Scientific Host of the conference.
2026 also marks the 30th brithday of the EuroSun conferences and we will celebrate a solar homecoming as the first ever EuroSun - EuroSun 1996 - took place in Freiburg Germany, home to both the ISES headquarters and Fraunhofer ISE.
Over the years, EuroSun has become a well-established and highly successful conference for the solar community welcoming guests from all around the world.
At EuroSun 2026, we are looking forward to welcoming solar researchers and practitioners, experts, industry representatives and students from all around the world. The programme will feature technical sessions on the conference themes, high-level keynotes by expert speakers, plenary sessions, workshops, two technical tours and more. The organizers are also working hard to offer a range of programme highlights to our young attendees such as a special Masters Course in Solar Energy and dedicated networking opportunities with senior experts from research and industry.
Conference Organizers: ISES and IEA SHC
Since 2022, the EuroSun conferences are organized jointly by ISES, the Solar Energy Society and the IEA SHC Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, IEA SHC.
About ISES
ISES, was founded as a non-profit UN-accredited membership NGO in 1954 and has a long history of being the trusted global advisor on renewable energy. For 70+ years, the members of ISES have undertaken the product research that has helped the renewable energy industry to grow. ISES, through its knowledge sharing and community building programs, helps its global membership provide the technical answers to accelerate the transformation to 100% renewable energy and thereby achieve the following vision: a world with 100% renewable energy for everyone used wisely and efficiently.
Key activities of the society include:
- Scientific Congresses: ISES Solar World Congress and EuroSun
- The publication of two scientific journals - Solar Energy Journal (est. 1957) and the fully open access Solar Energy Advances (est. 2021)
- Monthly free webinars on solar energy related topics of high relevance in science, technology development, market and industrial implementation, social issues, training and education
- ISES Infographics
- ISES Solar Energy Museum
- Educational Initiatives: ISES Masters Course in Solar Energy and InCoRE (International Cooperation in Higher Education on Renewable Energies)
About IEA SHC
The Solar Heating and Cooling Technology Collaboration Programme (SHC TCP) was established in 1977, one of the first programmes of the International Energy Agency. The SHC TCP's work is unique in that it is accomplished through the international collaborative effort of experts from country members, sponsor members and the European Union.
The IEA SHC's vision is to through multi-disciplinary international collaborative research and knowledge exchange, as well as market and policy recommendations, increase the deployment rate of solar heating and cooling systems by breaking down the technical and non-technical barriers to increase deployment.
Key activities include:
- 8 active Tasks (working groups) to study various aspects of solar heating and cooling
- Publications on a variety of solar energy topics such as Solar Heat Worldwide, the most comprehensive evaluation of solar heating and cooling markets
- SHC Solar Academy + webinars to share IEA SHC's work and support R&D and implementation of solar heating and cooling projects worldwide
- Onsite Training
Scientific Host
For 2026, the organizers are especially pleased to announce the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE as the Scientific Host of the conference.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg, Germany is the largest solar research institute in Europe. With a staff of about 1 400, Fraunhofer ISE committed to promoting a sustainable, economic, secure and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energy sources. The institute contributes to this through it's main research areas of energy provision, energy distribution, energy storage and energy utilization. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, spin-off companies and global collaborations, the institute shapes the sustainable transformation of the energy system.
In the market-oriented business areas of Photovoltaics: Materials, Cells and Modules, Photovoltaics: Production Technology and Transfer, Solar Power Plants and Integrated Photovoltaics, Electrical Energy Storage, Power Electronics and Grids, Climate-Neutral Heat and Buildings, Hydrogen Technologies as well as System Integration, the Institute develops materials, components, systems and processes. For this purpose, Fraunhofer ISE has an excellent laboratory infrastructure at their disposal. In addition, the institute performs analyses, carries out studies, provides consultations and offers clients testing and certification procedures. Fraunhofer ISE is certified according to the quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and according to the standard DIN EN ISO 50001:2018 for energy management.
